the most important aspects of being a veterinarian is helping people accept end of life decisions.
One of the most important aspects of being a veterinarian is helping people accept end of life decisions. The hardest decision many of us ever make is knowing when it’s ok to say goodbye. I can only give the advice I have given myself and share the other experiences from other families. Ultimately it only matters how you feel your pets quality of life is and that you made the decision with love. Thank you to Stitch’s family for sharing his story with all of us.

Why it’s so important to bring your cat to the vet annually. If over 10 years visit every 6 months

I am a a small animal veterinarian who share the cases I see. Here’s why a good, thorough physical examination with your vet is so important for your pets health. Every cat needs to have their nails checked every month. Older cats too often have overgrown ails that can grow into the foot pads and cause painful infections.
“I think my dog is constipated” Why clients (ALWAYS guess wrong), and make the diarrhea worse

I am a small animal veterinarian who shares the cases I see. When people see their dog straining and posturing in the yard they ASSUME that this is constipation. We have a running bet every time these cases show up at the clinic. Almost always the upset is struggling with diarrhea, which is far more common than constipation, and the client adds laxatives as an at home treatment only making the ...

Really appreciate this video. Thank you so much. My pet of 15 years fell ill a month ago. The vet was ready to put him to sleep that day or the next. I pushed back. I wanted to try with the medication that was available. I felt it was my obligation to try. The vet was surprised to see him in much better form a week later. Still ill, but stronger. He survived another month with medication and care. I am so grateful. Thank you for this🙏💜🌸✨

Vet prices in Charleston are atrocious. While the veterinarians are reasonably good there was no good reason an exploratory surgery on a small dog was over $1500 and nothing was found wrong. A simple exam can run over $300. Low income people love their pets and want to do their best to get health care for them

I have been looking for recent videos of total ear ablation but most have been about canines and a good many of them were 12 to 15 years old. I just came across this and although it wasn't a TECA-BO procedure, it's close enough. I would really like your opinion about a sad situation regarding my 7 year old cat who was just diagnosed with cancer (melanoma) for the third time in 2 years. Squeak had a lumpectomy to remove a tumor on his right pinna in December of 2022. It came back in September of last year (lump at the base of same ear) and a TECA-BO and pinnectomy was done at a specialty vet hospital. It was VERY costly (around 10k) and I had to take money out of my retirement savings to pay for it. He recovered well and I was so happy for him but that didn't last for too long. After seeing Squeak shake his head frequently and scratch at the incision area recently, I brought him in to see my primary vet who took some chest x-rays to make sure lungs were clear. He didn't seem concerned at all with the head shaking and scratching. I brought Squeak in again when things appeared to get worse. This time my vet prescribed Baytril and prednisolone for 2 weeks to see if the problem cleared up. Sadly, it did not. I had a FNA done during a consult with a veterinary surgeon yesterday and this morning she called me with distressing news. Pathology report stated "Lymphocytic proliferation and many atypical multinucleated cells; suspicious for lymph node with metastatic amelanotic melanoma." I can't believe my poor boy is facing this devastating diagnosis again after all he has been through. The surgeon said she will get back to me after she consults an oncologist about "treatment" options and mentioned another surgery, radiation and/or chemo as possibilities. I am at a loss as to what I should do. Can you offer me any advice, Dr. Magnifico? Putting my cat through another aggressive surgery is scary but so is radiation and chemo. What would you suggest to one of your clients if their cat was in this situation? Please respond to this. I really need some guidance so I can make an informed choice for Squeak. I will follow up with my regular vet probably next week to get his opinion. I had the cytology findings sent to him. Any wisdom you can offer would be much appreciated! I'm very worried...

Yowsa! You didn't pay attention at all. If this were human medicine, there'd be medical insurance. If it were human medicine, euthanasia because the caregiver can't afford $6,000 for all the testing plus the procedures would be considered "unethical and unprofessional" 😆along with criminal plus a murder sentence. Wake up, the vet explained - with limited funding from most pet owners, she's working with an extremely limited budget to solve the problem so blocked cats aren't euthanized. If you disagree, set up a fund for her clinic with your own money to pay for all the testing you wish to be done.

The "money" that you are worried about is going to be gigantically more coming from the doc's pocket for the lawsuit and they will lose their license. Unless they are simple diagnosis, like dehydration and saline IV as treatment, then it's okay, but even then, saline IV has contraindications. 40-50% of the people on the planet don't have "insurance". This doc isn't saying that she's ONLY doing it for people who can't afford it, she's using that as emotional bait even when the people can.
